The College and the School of Music survived as two separate divisions until 193233, when music was recognized as an academic discipline worthy of credit within the College and the College became the university.
His success in raising the standards of music instruction and attracting students led to his appointment as director of a separate Institute of Music in 1890, thereafter known as the Bucknell University School of Music .
The School of Music was abolished, and the music staff became faculty members of the university.
