The Eurovision Song Contest 1971 was the sixteenth Eurovision and was held on April 3, 1971 in Ireland. With Bernadette Ni Ghallchoir as the presenter, the contest was won by Severine who represented Monaco, with her song "Un Banc Un Arbre, Une Rue".
The new voting system that was introduced in this Eurovision did have one big problem. Some juries gave less points out than others. If it was done to increase their chances of winning is uncertain but the voting system was not the best.
The next phase was outside-broadcasts in colour, and the first was the 1971EurovisionSongContest, the first of many such productions by RTÉ.
In 1971, the first such directive was issued by Gerry Collins, directing RTÉ not to broadcast "any matter that could be calculated to promote the aims or activities of any organisation which engages in, promotes, encourages or advocates the attaining of any particular objectives by violent means".
Following this, Collins dismissed the entire RTÉ Authority over an interview with an (unidentified on-air) source which had been the coeval chief of staff of the Provisional IRA.
In late October 2004 representatives of Swiss public regional broadcasters SF DRS, TSR and TSI reviewed the entries for the EurovisionSongContest2005 and came to an unanimous decision: Switzerland will be represented by the Estonian girl-band Vanilla Ninja at the EurovisionSongContest2005 in Kiev.
