Comics (or, less commonly, sequential art) is a form of visual art consisting of images which are commonly combined with text, often in the form of speech balloons or image captions.
The most common forms of printed comics are comic strips (most commonly four panels long) in newspapers and magazines, and longer comic stories in comic books, graphic novels and comic albums.
Whilst almost all comics art is in some sense abbreviated, and also whilst every artist who has produced comics work brings their own individual approach to bear, some broader art styles have been identified.
Prism Comics » Features » "Beginnings" (1414 words)
Comic books historically have not been particularly friendly to gay characters, especially when considering Marvel and DC, two of the largest and most legendary publishers of superhero comics.
When I first started collecting, comics were 15 cents (and candy bars were 5 cents) and as the ‘70s progressed, the prices slowly got higher and higher until 1977 when DC made the big leap to the Dollar Comic, a line which at first boasted 80 pages of all new material with no ads.
For as much as I love the idea and sight of the Dollar Comics, they really didn’t have enough good artists and writers, or simply weren’t willing to pay for the better ones, to generate all this extra material (to be fair, there was a lot of A+ plus material sprinkled throughout).
