The 1978 American League Championship Series was held between the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals. The Royals won 92 games that year and won the Western Divison title by 5 games over the Texas Rangers. The Yankees overcame a mid season defecit of 14 games and went on to win a one game playoff against the Boston Red Sox to win the Eastern crown.
