The 1980 Formula One season was the 31st FIA Formula One World Championship season. It commenced on January 13, 1980, and ended on October 5 after fourteen races. Although not counting towards the World Championship, the Spanish Grand Prix was also run, on June 1, and was won by Alan Jones in a Williams, marking the teams first of many constructors and drivers championships. Frenchman Patrick Depailler tragically lost his life while testing at Hockenheim.
