Science is related in many ways to the economies of all developed nations, including Canada, and plays a major role in public and private decisions in many areas of society.
Science can therefore not be viewed as merely a matter of “facts”; rather, it is a subject in which students learn to weigh the complex combinations of fact and value that developments in science and technology have given rise to in modern society.
The content of the secondary science program also builds on the five strands present in the elementary curriculum, although less emphasis is placed on technological education, which is a distinct discipline at the secondary level.
