Hip hugger flare-leg jeans became popular among teenaged and pre-teen girls. Corduroy fabric became popular for pants and overalls, sometimes abbreviated to "cords". Initially brown was the popular color for "cords". In 1997, cords also became popular in colors such as black, tann, and gray. Corduroy continued as a trend through 2001.
