  • Senna hit Hill in the first corner, but both continued falling to 9th and 10th place.
  • Senna was chasing Martin Brundle, but braked too late and hit the back of Brundle's Ligier-Renault in the 8th lap, causing both to retire.
  • Fittipaldi collided with his team-mate Martini as they approached the finish line. Fittipaldi's left front wheel made contact with Martini's right rear wheel, which launched Fittipaldi into a near perfect back flip, landing on all four wheels and continuing over the line to finish the race.

During the Canadian Grand Prix that year, both Irvine and Barrichello finished on the podium, finishing second and third respectively.
Frentzen was replaced by test driver Ricardo Zonta at the German Grand Prix, but thereafter in 2001 Jean Alesi, in the final stages of his Formula One career, took the seat.
