Not just from groups opposed to holding the Grand Prix in Albert Park but also from the Law Institute of Victoria, the governing body of solicitors, the Bar Council, the governing body of barristers, the Council for Civil Liberties and the Opposition.
The objections focused on a number of extraordinary provisions which remove the Grand Prix from all the usual checks and balances which ordinarily protect the public by ensuring that no single arm of government is inordinately powerful or unaccountable.
The Act sets up the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) which is responsible for construction of the track and facilities, and for running the event.
