Race

Coulthard led away from pole position, while Schumacher attempted to go around the outside of Hill at the first corner. The Englishman held Schumacher off, but both ran off the racing line in the process, allowing Ferrari's Jean Alesi through into second place.[1] Meanwhile Coulthard set his fastest lap of the race as early as the fourth lap as he extended his lead over the Ferrari. Schumacher was unable to make further progress until the first round of pit stops on lap 18 when a faster stop brought him out of the pitlane ahead of both Hill and Alesi to take up pursuit of Coulthard. The reigning world champion set the fastest lap of the race on lap 40. Meanwhile, Coulthard felt that backmarkers were not allowing him through quickly enough: "I do not like complaining about traffic but it was not particularly kind to me, I was stuck behind some of them for eight laps and they could have allowed me to pass".[2] This article or section does not adequately cite its references or sources. ...

By lap 51 Schumacher was leading the Scot, who had made his final stop two laps earlier, by 21 seconds, but still had a pit stop of his own to make. Schumacher's 'in lap', the lap on which he turned into the pits, was the fastest such lap of the race by almost two seconds. His Benetton team produced the second fastest pit stop of the day and this, combined with a fast 'out lap' saw the German driver return to the track with a four second lead over his rival. During practice and qualifying Schumacher had saved four unused sets of tyres from the weekend's allocation of seven, while his Williams rivals had only two left and thus started their final stint of the race on used rubber. Coulthard later commented, "once [Schumacher] took the lead after his pit-stop I had no chance of catching him with old tyres."[2] Schumacher survived a downshifting problem and eventually crossed the finish line almost 15 seconds ahead of the Williams driver, taking Benetton's 25th win and his own 18th victory to seal the drivers' championship.[1]

Hill finished third, the only other driver not to have been lapped, after a coming together with Irvine which damaged his front wing. Alesi slipped to fifth place by the end of the race, one place behind his team mate. Johnny Herbert took the final point for sixth place, increasing Benetton's lead over Williams in the constructors' championship by a single point to 21 points. Magnussen was classified 10th on his debut, two seconds behind his more experienced team mate.[2]

Post Race

Schumacher and Hill renewed their argument from the Belgian Grand Prix over what degree of blocking was acceptable.[1] The 1995 Belgian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on August 27, 1995 at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Spa. ...
