Encyclopedia > 2 Days in the Valley

2 Days in the Valley is a 1996 movie, directed by John Herzfeld, about 48 hours in the lives of a group of people who are drawn together by a murder. Several parallel story lines overlap one another in the film. The main storyline, that all of the other storylines interconnect with, involves hired killers Lee Woods (James Spader) and Dosmo Pizzo (Danny Aiello). The two invade the home of Roy Foxx (Peter Horton) and kill him. Woods then turns on Pizzo, to set him up as the fall-guy but Pizzo survives, as we learn that the hit was ordered by Roy's ex-wife, Becky Foxx (Teri Hatcher). As the stories progress and intertwine, a cop (Eric Stoltz) investigates the case and must save Becky's life when Pizzo comes looking for revenge. 1996 (MCMXCVI) is a leap year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, and was designated the International Year for the Eradication of Poverty. ...

As soon as the coloured people found out that he could read, a newspaper was secured, and at the close of nearly every day’s work this young man would be surrounded by a group of men and women who were anxious to hear him read the news contained in the papers.
Finally I won, and was permitted to go to the school in the day for a few months, with the understanding that I was to rise early in the morning and work in the furnace till nine o’clock, and return immediately after school closed in the afternoon for at least two more hours of work.
In those days, and later as a young man, I used to try to picture in my imagination the feelings and ambitions of a white boy with absolutely no limit placed upon his aspirations and activities.
