The 2000 American League Division Series, the first round of the 2000 American League playoffs, saw the wild card-qualifying Seattle Mariners (91-71) beat the Central Division champion Chicago White Sox (95-67) 3 games to 0, and the Eastern Division champion and defending World Series champion New York Yankees (87-74) defeat the Western Division champion Oakland Athletics (91-70) 3-2. The Mariners could have tied the Athletics, who missed one game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, for the best record in the Western Division; but as the A's would still have been designated the division champions due to their winning the season series 9-4 against the Mariners, the game was not required to be made up. The Mariners and Yankees went on to meet in the American League Championship Series, for the right to advance to the 2000 World Series against the National League champion.
