It went out to help him, and just as the car's driver, Alex Ribeiro, opened the door, Heidfeld's Sauber came in, and crashed into the door! Thankfully, both Heidfeld and Ribeiro were all right, especially Ribeiro, who might've been killed if he had been stepping out.
