Notes - Pole position: Fernando Alonso 1:34.080
- Fastest Lap: Kimi Räikkönen; 1m 33.242s on lap 56.
- Lap Leader: Fernando Alonso 1-56 (56).
- Race Winner: Fernando Alonso
- Renault F1 clinched the world constructors' championship.
- During a warm up lap as the cars were lining up on the grid from the pit lane, Christijan Albers and Michael Schumacher's cars crashed into each other. Both were forced to start from the pits in their teams' spare car.
- Narain Karthikeyan started from the pits after deciding to pull in from the pace lap.
- The safety car was brought out twice — the second for an accident in which Karthikeyan's car came to rest on the straight near Turn 13 (he walked away), and the first for when a manhole cover on track came loose, and was run over by Montoya. Montoya had his right front changed, but soon dropped out because McLaren were uncertain about the effects on his car.
- Ralf Schumacher, Christian Klien and Felipe Massa all opted not to pit during the second safety car period, meaning that they ran 2nd, 3rd and 4th for a while. Mainly due to Rubens Barrichello's slower Ferrari running ahead of Jenson Button, Mark Webber and David Coulthard, the cars ahead managed to build enough of a gap to finish higher than expected after making their pitstops, moving Ralf and Felipe above their team-mates in the championship, giving Sauber points in their final race, and giving Klien his best ever Formula 1 finish.
- As the nineteenth race of the season, it made the 2005 season the longest in the history of the Formula 1 World Championship.
