The 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix was a Formula One race, the first round of the World Championship, held on March 12, 2006 at the Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir, Bahrain. The race featured a new 3-part qualfiying system - the first two sections were ran under low fuel, with the slowest 6 cars eliminated in each of those, before the top 10 had a 20-minute session with race fuel, getting back however much fuel they use for the start of teh race (UK TV pundit Martin Brundle referred to the fuel credit as 'Tiger Tokens'). The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix - 2006 was the first round of the 2006 Formula One World Championship, held on March 12, 2006 at the Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain.
The race was the first run under the new 2006 qualifying rules, in which the one hour session is split into three 'knock out' parts.
The first part eliminated Kimi Räikkönen (rear wishbone failure) and Ralf Schumacher, who was caught out by the red flag after Räikkönen's accident and failed to set a competitive time, as well as the MF1's and the two Super Aguris.
