The XX Olympic Winter Games will be held in Turin, Italy from February 10 to 26. Turin was chosen as the host of the Olympics in 1999, defeating Sion (Switzerland). This was just after the IOC had adopted a new style of voting due to corruption scandals surrounding the votes for the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics.

The 2006 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XX Olympic Winter Games, were held in Turin, Italy from February 10, 2006, through February 26, 2006.
The Olympic mascots of Torino 2006 were Neve ("snow" in Italian), a female snowball, and Gliz, a male ice cube.
This was an increase of three from the 77 represented at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
2006 Olympics Trivia Games (483 words)
There are fifteen displines in all at the Winter Games, most of them traditional like Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsled, Cross-country Skiing, Curling, Ice Hockey and Figure Skating, and some of them relatively new to the games, like the hyperactive and very exciting Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing competitions.
The Olympic torch for the 2006 Winter Games in Turin was lit November 27, 2005 at the Temple of Hera in Ancient Olympia.
Stefano Baldini, the Italian winner of the Athens Games marathon, began the Italian leg of the relay in Rome on December 8.
