End of a streak

Dale Jarrett, driving the #44 UPS Toyota Camry, failed to qualify for this race, marking the first time in 434 races that he failed to make a Cup Series event, last missing the field at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 1994. Jarrett was hamstrung by a new rule installed in 2007 that limits past Cup champions to a total of six past champion provisionals, having used all of them through the spring race at Talladega. Toyotas have not fared well in their maiden season through this point in the year compared to Dodge, Chevrolet and Ford, plus the fact he was with Michael Waltrip Racing, which have had problems since Waltrip's #55 team had been penalized severely during the qualifying for the 2007 Daytona 500. The Race

The race was rained out on May 5, 2007 so it will be ran on May 6, 2007 during the day, at 1:00PM, which means for the first time since the 2002 season, Richmond will run during the day. The first 12 laps were run under a green-yellow combination, meaning that the cars have started the race, but are running at caution speed. Polesitter Jeff Gordon would lead these first 12 laps before the cars were called in on lap 13. On May 6, 2007 the Lap count will be restarted to 0 and all 400 laps will be ran. However, viewers who were expecting to see the race in Detroit, Michigan were disapointed to hear that the rescheduled race was pre-empted due to a previous commitment by WJBK, the local FOX affiliate to broadcast a Tigers baseball game.
