| | | | Major league affiliations | | | | 2007 Uniform | | | | Location | | | | 2007 Information | | Owner(s) | Lewis Wolff | | Manager(s) | Bob Geren | | Local Television | FSN Bay Area | | Local Radio | KYCY KNTS KIFR | The Oakland Athletics 2007 season is their first since 2004 in which they are defending a title. After winning the AL West championship in the 2006 season, they will try to prevent their competition, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Texas Rangers, and the Seattle Mariners from stealing the championship away from them. The Oakland Athletics will be without Frank Thomas (Toronto) and ace Barry Zito (San Francisco), both players who the A's lost to free agency. They filled the space left by Frank Thomas by signing free agent catcher Mike Piazza to a one-year contract worth $8.5 million. He is expected to be the team's designated hitter. They will also be without Ken Macha, their former manager who was fired after 4 seasons with the team and replaced by Bob Geren, as well as third-base coach Ron Washington, who accepted the managerial position of the Texas Rangers.
