Construction timeline

At the time of the bid 60% of the venues and facilities were in place. The following is the schedule for the completion of the remaining venues for the games:

  • 2006 – New Wembley stadium
  • 2007 – Channel Tunnel/Stratford rail link
  • 2008 – Aquatics Centre and Velopark
  • 2010 – East London Line extension
  • 2011 – Olympic Stadium and Heathrow's Terminal Five

The 2012 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad, will be held in London, United Kingdom from 27 July to 12 August 2012.
The 2012 Olympics will use a mixture of newly built venues, existing facilities, and temporary facilities, including the 80,000 seat Olympic Stadium and the new Wembley Stadium.
The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) was put in place to oversee the development of the Games after the success of the bid, and held their first board meeting on 7 October 2005.

The British Olympic Association (BOA) put in place the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to oversee many of these developments, though such a large-scale event requires the co-operation of many other agencies.
Since the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia the IOC have developed a "master schedule" to ensure that the planning and development of the Games goes smoothly.
Some plans for 2012 Summer Olympic venues have had to change since the bid was developed.
