The bombings came only 2 days before the major Hindu and Sikh Festival Diwali, and less than a week before the major Islamic festival Eid ul-Fitr, and were triggered in two markets in central and south Delhi and near a bus in the Govindpuri area in the south of the city. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh blamed "terrorists", though no group has yet claimed responsibility. According to Rediff website the blasts are suspected to be the handiwork of Lashkar-e-Toiba, a banned Pakistan-based terrorist group; however, there is no official confirmation of this.
