Schedule

Between 11am and 8pm and Midnight and 5am, Mix's music runs to a strict schedule. The station promises "More than 30 minutes of continuous smooth variety" every hour. A typical hour between these times on Mix would look like this:

Up to five past: News and traffic

Five past to around thirty-five past: Music (more than 30 minutes of continuous smooth variety, usually 9 or 10 songs)

Thirty-five past to around forty-five past: Ads

Forty-five past to around fifty-five past: Music (usually 3 songs)

Fifty-five past to O'Clock: Ads

In all of these hours, music played is a mix from the 80's, 90's and now. However, exceptions to this involve the 80s Mix (12pm-1pm) and the 90s Mix (3pm - 4pm).

All other programs on Mix have no rigid music/ads pattern.

Recently, following moves by its equivalents in Brisbane and Melbourne, Mix 1065 has introduced 106 minutes of "continuous smooth variety" from the 80s, 90s and now, beginning at 9am on weekdays.

Mix has also come under criticism for having too many ads. Before the "more than 30 minutes" policy, it used to play half an hour of music, five minutes of ads, twenty minutes of music then five minutes for ads, more music than is currently played.

MILESAGO - Radio - 2SM (Sydney) (6474 words)
Battling its rivals 2UE and 2UW and against stiff resistance from the station's conservative board, Stephenson took 2SM to the top of the ratings, but this success was to be short-lived.
By the end of 1965, the CBC had evidently decided that the station's push to capture the youth audience had gone too far and the Good Guys team was disbanded in favour of a more 'mature' approach called "King Radio".
2UW had been languishing at around 8% in the ratings, but under Sparx it repositioned itself as a 'latest hits' station and, according to Nick Jones, for a while at least this new direction proved very successful, with 2UW attracting up to 56% of the 10-17 age group, most of them wooed from 2SM.
MILESAGO - Profiles - Ward "Pally" Austin (1089 words)
After being sacked by 2UE for his irreverent on-air comments, he moved to 2UW in 1964, which marked the beginning of the peak period of his career.
Like his Melbourne colleague Stan "The Man" Rofe, Pally was an enthusiastic supporter of local talent and he played a major role in breaking many notable Australian acts (such as The Dave Miller Set) and helping their records to become hits.
The best of these tapes were played every Friday afternoon on 2UW by Ward and the competition culminated a year later in an all-day concert at Sydney Showground.
