Mean body weight gains in both male and female mice in the high dose (3 percent) group were significantly reduced (21 to 25 percent) relative to controls for the 104-week treatment period, without any significant decreases in food consumption.
The same data establish that rats fed sucralose at a concentration of 3 percent of the diet did show significant decreases in weight gain which were attributable to the test substance.
(3 ) The combined chronic toxicity/carcinogenicity rat studies (E057) and the carcinogenicity study in rats (E053) were designed to test the toxic potential of sucralose and its hydrolysis products for a duration approximating the lifespan of the species.
