30footfall, sometimes 30 foot fall, was a Houston-based punk rock band widely recognized as the most successful and enduring punk band to emerge from an unsteady Houston music scene in the 90's. Punk rock is an anti-establishment music movement beginning around 1976 (although precursors can be found several years earlier), exemplified and popularised by The Ramones, the Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Damned. ...

Formed in the early 90's by then-drummer Rubio and Broken-Note founder Crazy Tony, 30footfall soon recruited lead singer Butch Klotz and started producing music. Touring the Texas music trifecta of Houston, Dallas, and Austin, 30footfall's popularity grew and the music became... Less bad. Line-up changes were frequent. The band at this point had devloped an original sound, perhaps comparable to early NOFX or based on elements developed by Minor Threat. Dallas redirects here. ...

After a slew of forgettable demos and questionable 7"s, 30footfall recorded and released their first LP, DIVIDED WE STAND on Fuzzgun Records in 1995 to no reviews. This was important, however, as Fearless Records signed them and produced their next record, Acme-143. More line-up changes and 7"s followed, culminating in a record offer from Nitro Records in 1999. 30footfall then released their most popular record to date, Ever Revolving, Never Evolving, followed by numerous tour dates and compilations. Ever Revolving has since become one of the late 90s most important punk rock releases, along with label-mates Guttermouth, offering an alternative to contemporary pop-punk trends like Blink 182. Cynical lyrics and fast music along with Butch's extremely.. Unique.. vocals, make for a very identifiable and relatable punk band. Official logo of Nitro Records. ...

After their relative success followed a period of relative silence. From 2000 - 2004, 30footfall did not tour, playing only occassionally in Houston venues such as Fitzgerald's, usually Christmas shows. Fitzgeralds is a famous Houston night club and music venue. ...
A relative surprise release came in 2004, titled The Doppler Effect, it was released independently and sold moderately well. 2005 has seen vocalist and lead man Klotz move to Virginia, effectively ending almost 15 years on top of the Houston music scene. Although Butch insists "I'll come back for the Christmas shows," 30footfall's fans are skeptical, as other members have been invovled in new musical projects; The Plus and Minus Show, and Middlefinger, among others. |
