340 on the Park is a new residential tower currently under construction in Chicago. Upon completion it will briefly become the second-tallest all-residential building in the United States, at 672 feet (205 meters) with 62 floors. The architectural firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz designed the tower. 340 on the Park's unique design and setting help set it apart from other condominium buildings currently under construction in Chicago. It is located in the Lakeshore East complex which, when completed, will house thousands of new residents. 340 on the Park is set flush next to Randolph Street, allowing unobstructed views of Millennium Park, Grant Park, and Lake Michigan. The tower's design also ingeniously allows for nearby buildings to maintain some views of the park. 340 on the Park will also become the first residential tower in Chicago to achieve LEED certification for its "green" design, including a large wintergarden for residents. Additional benefits include a connection to the Chicago pedway system. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), provides a list of standards for environmentally-sustainable construction. ... When completed, the building will briefly surpass 55 East Erie as the tallest all-residential building in Chicago. However it will hold this title only for a few months, until completion of One Museum Park.


The north side of the building is contoured so that views from Buckingham Plaza next to the building are not interfered with.
