Klotilde was selected for rotational period determination based on its relatively low magnitude, favorable viewing position, and no previous rotational period information.

On 2005 May 04 UT (just before dawn on the 5th), the 82 km diameter asteroid (583) Klotilde will occult a 11.8 mag star in the constellation Sagittarius for observers along a path across Australia, Indonesia, India.
In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 2.7 mag to 14.4 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 18.1 seconds.
