The German Sixth SS Panzer Army, 6.SS-Panzerarmee, did not receive this official designation until after the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944. The Sixth was designated as such during the preparation for the Lake Balaton Offensive, Hungary, Operation Frühlingserwachen, in mid-January, 1945. The designation came into general use after the Second World War for the unit assembled prior to the Ardennes Offensive.
