  • 79th Regiment of Foot -- Was formed in 1757. It moved to India in 1758 and saw service in the 2nd Carnatic War. In 1762 the regiment took part in the successful invasion of Manila, capital of the Spanish-controlled Philippines. It returned home the following year where it was disbanded.
  • 79th (The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders( Regiment of Foot -- Took part in many notable actions, including at the battles of Waterloo and Alma. It became The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders on 1 July 1881.
