"Yes, no need to change import rule", Lui Passaglia is right of course. This was not about Canada vs America, import vs non-import, expansion vs isolationism. "We'll let you guys fight that one," Passaglia said. "We won this for us!" as the B.C. Lions out-gutted the Baltimore CFLers 26-23 on the last play of the game to win their third Grey Cup in franchise history on their home field of BC Place Stadium. However, in the second quarter the Baltimore Football Club would manage to score 14 unanswered points, which made it 14-3 CFLers. The first touchdown came when quarterback Tracy Ham faked a hand-off to running back Mike Pringle to score a one-yard touchdown on a 59-yard, seven-play drive. Then before a minute later, Baltimore linebacker Alvin Walton intercepted a Kent Austin pass then laterals it to cornerback Karl Anthony for a 36-yard touchdown. It looked like Baltimore would have complete control over B.C. in front of their fans in the 82nd Grey Cup game, but within over two minutes after Baltimore returned their interception for the score, Lions defensive back Charles Gordon would intercept a Tracy Ham pass to go 17-yards to make it 14-10, CFLers. Then with a 1:08 seconds left in the first half, Baltimore kicker, Donald Igwebuike kicks a 17-yard field goal to make it 17-10, CFLers going into half-time. At the start of the third quarter, Lions' head coach Dave Ritchie decided to switch quarterbacks by replacing Kent Austin (who was apparently injured) for back-up Danny McManus, who had his work cut out for him after Igwebuike kicked a 27-yard field goal, 4:34 seconds in to make it 20-10, CFLers. Danny McManus (b. ...

However, with 9:39 left to play in the third quarter, Danny McManus ran for a 1-yard touchdown, which completed a 9-play, 75-yard drive to make it 20-17, CFLers. Then nearly five minutes later, McManus managed a 4-play, 56-yard drive, which set up a 42-yard field goal by Lui Passaglia to tie the game at 20-20, to end the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, it was a defensive struggle as both teams were unable to get a touchdown leaving their kickers to try to get the winning points through field goals. Passaglia started off by kicking a 27-yard field goal with little over three minutes in the quarter, 23-20 Lions. Then with just over five minutes later, Igwebuike kicked a 29-yard field goal to make it a 23-23 tie. For around seven minutes neither team could score until the last play of the game when Lui Passaglia kicked in his winning 38-yard field goal to make it a 26-23 final for the 1994 Grey Cup Champions, the B.C. Lions.

After the game, everyone expected Lui Passaglia to be named Grey Cup MVP, instead the league awarded it to Baltimore's Karl Anthony, becoming the first player to be awarded with such an honour in a losing cause. Lui Passaglia, however, was awarded with the Grey Cup Most Valuable Canadian and as long he had the Grey Cup in his hands it didn't matter. The Grey Cups Most Valuable Canadian award is awarded annually to the Canadian-born player deemed to have the best performance in the Grey Cup game, the championship of the Canadian Football League. ...

The other reasons why the Lions won the championship was based on the team's effectiveness on defence and rushing yardage. The Lions defensive front of Andrew Stewart, Angelo Snipes, Doug Petersen and Henry Newby each had a sack on Baltimore's Tracy Ham, making it four sacks in total. In addition, the defensive front were able to shutdown Baltimore's offensive threat, by limiting all-star running back, Mike Pringle to only 71-yards rushing and fullback Robert Drummond to just 38-yards rushing, which was not the case for the Lions. All-star (also, Allstar or All Star) is a term with meanings in both the worlds of sports and entertainment. ...

The Lions rushing tandem of running back, Cory Philpot and fullback Sean Millington combined for 194-yards rushing, with Philpot having 17 carries, for 109-yards rushing and Millington having 13 carries, for 85-yards rushing. Sean Millington (born February 1, 1968) is a former Canadian Football League fullback who is currently a CFL analyst for both cfl. ...

The running game and defence allowed the Lions to have the ball for 31:22 compared to Baltimore's 28:38 minutes of possession, which were the contributing factors that lead to Lui Passaglia's game-winning field goal.
