9 to 5 is a phrase which refers to the time (9:00AM to 5:00PM, or 0900h - 1700h) at which some office employees work each day, usually from Monday to Friday. These hours are the standard business hours in the United States and United Kingdom, as well as other countries, and are an incarnation of the eight-hour day. The term 9 to 5 is also used as a slang term for a day job; for example, "My 9 to 5 is at a law office, but my real love is playing in the band."
