History
On 22 January 1975, Richard Findlay (the Radio Forth chairman) woke up the listeners of Edinburgh, The Lothians and Fife to the words: "This, for the very first time is Radio Forth". The first DJ on air was a man named Steve Hamilton who hosted the breakfast show.
In 1990, Forth was forced to use it's AM service (as Radio Forth was being broadcast on both their FM and AM frequencies) so Max AM was launched. Radio Forth was renamed Forth FM which was mainly for the younger age group, while Max AM was for the 35+. Soon after this, Max AM was renamed to Forth AM to match it's sister station.
In 2000, the two stations were both relaunched as 97.3 Forth One and 1548 FORTH2. Many changes occurred at this time, from new jingles to brand new DJs at the stations. News, Sport and Travel Forth News broadcasts bulletins every hour during peak times as well as summaries on the half hour during the breakfast and drivetime shows. Weather is also broadcast at the end of the news as well as being read out on the half hour. Paul Robertson is currently the head of news at Radio Forth as well as reading some bulletins.
Sports bulletins are broadcast on Forth One at 8am, 1pm and 5.30pm on weekdays and 10.30am on Saturday mornings. Mark Donaldson is a regular presenter of the sport as well as being the editor.
Travel news is also an integral part of Forth One's output. Updates are read out during the breakfast show and at Drivetime with weekday DJ Iain Waugh. Listeners can also report travel problems 24 hours a day by phoning Forth One Jambusters.
Specialist programmes Boogie and Jill present Boogie in the Morning at 6am (Monday-Friday). The team airs new and slightly older music to wake up East Central Scotland
Yasmin Zemmoura presents every weekdayForth One Drivetime at 4pm (Monday-Friday). She plays new,current and slightly older music, along with competitions and other features including The Word is Out which has a quote of a famous celebrity with one word covered and callers phone in to guess the missing word. The cash prize goes up £50 every day, and the movie masacar and 6 @ 6 !
Mark Martin(Monkey) presents The Forth One Hit List at 7pm (Sunday-Thursday). He plays Top 40 music for the younger listeners across Edinburgh, The Lothians and Fife. Listeners can choose their favourite songs at 7.15pm, 8.15pm and 9.15pm by phoning, texting or by e-mailing. The Hit List also has competitions and regular famous guests to be interviewed and to answer questions from listeners.
Krystle presents Friday Night Floorfillers at 10pm (Friday) with current dance tracks remixed for the weekend.
Andy Bouglas (Boogie) and David Konov (Dingo) do The Big Saturday Show every Saturday from 10am. This show has new and slightly older music played between features such as Call America, Wrong to be Right (where a child has to answer all the questions wrong to win) and 12 O'Clock Rock. Dave is also the station "imager"; this means he is responsible for the on-air "sound" of 97.3 Forth One (and sister station 1548 FORTH2)
Andy Monaghan presents The Open Line every Saturday night (or Sunday morning) from 1am. Grant Stott presents The Forth One Rewind every Sunday from 10am. It plays older tracks from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
