According to EMI Japan, the video for "A Beautiful Lie" was going to be shot in both Alaska and the North Pole. Jared Leto then moved the video to Greenland and the band has started shooting since August 29, 2007. Jared has said that the video will be environmentally safe and for every download of the video, it will go to an environmental charity. The video is a montage of images of the Greenland environment interwoven with scenes of the band playing on the edge of an iceberg, and has the slight feel of a documentary. Only the three remaining members of the band feature in the video, touring bassist Tim Kelleher does not make an appearance. The video contains two hidden messages about Global Warming. The first one is a message that reads "We are all guilty; No matter what make a difference; Turn off your tv go outside and breathe" set in front of a number of images including a multi colored sphere, most likely representing the earth. Also, the video ends with a message to the viewers: "Turn this off right now and go outside and breathe. Love Thirty Seconds To Mars." The message is written upside-down; in other words, they are vertically flipped, not typed out backwards.^[4]
