Best known for his poetry, Klein also wrote a number of essays and short stories. By profession he was a lawyer, and ran for Parliament on the CCF socialist ticket in 1949. Fellow Montreal Jew, Leonard Cohen, is an admirer who has cited Klein as an influence and written a song in his memory.
