The A14 is a major road in England, running from Felixstowe to the junction of the M1 and M6motorways near Rugby. It forms the eastern part of the British section of the E30European route. Much of the route of the A14 was formerly part of the A45 road.
There is a six-lane stretch (three lanes each way) between Newmarket and Cambridge where this road is also the A11, carrying traffic from London to Norwich.
The section between Cambridge and Huntingdon (between junctions with the M11 and A1 respectively) is badly congested and in 2003 was the subject of a government study called CHUMMS (Cambridge to Huntingdon multi-modal study), which recommended a partial diversion, and widening of the whole section to three lanes.
Each time there are "light" delays on the A14 (by which I mean the traffic flow suddenly slows from 70mph, to 50mph) it is caused by lorries overtaking lorries with a speed difference of 1mph.
I've been forced to travel on the A14 for two years now, its a very dangerous and busy road but by far the main cause of delays and accidents is the "professional" drivers who use it.
The M11 should be extended to the A1M and the A14 should have been made a motorway in the first instance.
