Encyclopedia > A31 road

The A31 is a major trunk road in England running south west from Guildford in Surrey along the Hog's Back. It continues past Farnham, Alton and New Alresford before disappearing at its junction with the M3 motorway just east of Winchester. The road continues as a minor route between Winchester and the New Forest. The M27 motorway flows into the road near Lyndhurst, from where it continues as a trunk road through the New Forest and past Ringwood, Ferndown and Wimborne Minster before terminating at its junction with the A35 road at Bere Regis. The A35 is not a trunk road east of Bere Regis, but is a continuation of the A31 trunk road to the west.
