The A33 is a major road in England. It consists of three sections: the first from Southampton to the southern end of the M3 motorway, the second from just north of Winchester to its junction with the A30 road; and the third from Basingstoke to Reading. The southern sections, formerly one of the two trunk roads to Southampton, has been bypassed by the M3.

It is proposed in these draft documents that the section of A33 between Basingstoke and the County Boundary should remain a National Primary Route and that the A339 between Basingstoke and Alton should remain a County Primary Road.
Between Basingstoke and Riseley the A33 is of a better standard than B3349 but significant increases in traffic flows over recent years have prompted a detailed study of a number of accident sites and the Roads and Development Sub Committee has recently requested a feasibility study to consider opportunities for improving this section of road.
It seems likely that the increase on A33 is largely due to development (especially at Chineham) rather than to the success of the policy to encourage a transfer between the two routes.
