AFC Emley was formed in 2005 by officials of the old Emley F.C., who moved to Wakefield in 2000 and changed their name to Wakefield-Emley F.C. (now Wakefield F.C.). They play at the Welfare Ground in Emley, the old home of Emley F.C. The new club finished third in the West Yorkshire League Division One.
