The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) is an actors' union that aims to represent actors in radio and television, much like the Screen Actors Guild does for movies. They negotiate the amounts for standard contracts, residual payments, unemployment benefits and the like for their members.
AFTRA members perform in television and radio advertising, non-broadcast video, audio books and messaging, as well as for developing technologies such as interactive games and Internet material.
As for benefits, AFTRA was the first entertainment industry union to establish employer-paid health and retirement plans for members and their dependents that qualify.
AFTRA's convention concluded with the passing of two amendments to the union's constitution.
