The AP Spanish Language exam is part of the College Board's Advanced Placement Program. Over one million high school students from the United States and Canada participate in AP exams annually, and schools from over 30 countries offer placement or credit for the exams. Policies on acceptance of AP exams for college credit vary from university to university, but many schools will accept a high score on an AP exam for college credit, and schools that do not give credit for AP exams often have very competitive admissions (where the majority of accepted applicants will have taken one or more AP exams). Subject Matter

This course is based on improving skills in writing, reading, and speaking Spanish. Students concentrate on developing proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in preparation for the AP Spanish Language examination. In addition, this course will emphasize mastery of linguistic competencies at a very high level of proficiency.

The Exam

The exam is divided into two sections with several parts. Section one contains sections of listening comprehension and reading comprehension, in which the student must listen to several dialogues or narratives or read several passages and then answer multiple-choice questions about them.

Section two contains a portion devoted to grammar and a portion devoted to speaking skills. In the grammar section, the student is given a paragraph or sentence in which some words are missing, and must insert the correct verb form, adjective, pronoun, or participle from a given root word. Students must also write an essay. In the speaking section, students are given a set of 6 drawings related to one coherent story, and must describe what is occurring in 2 minutes, as if narrating a story. Students will also be asked a series of questions about a particular topic and given 20 seconds to respond to each question.

The test is approximately three hours in duration.
