ARA Hercules is a Type 42 Destroyer of the Armada Republica Argentina. The ship was completed in 1976 at the Vickers Shipbuilding yard in Barrow-in-Furness before being delivered to Argentina. As built, she was identical to the Type 42 units being commissioned by the Royal Navy. In 1982, along with her newly built sister ship, Santisima Trinidad, she was part of the escort for the aircraft carrier Veinticinco de Mayo during the Falklands War. Today, following a major conversion which has seen the ship's flight deck and hanger expanded to allow her to operate Sea King helicopters, she operates as an amphibious command ship.
