Creation
Arbih, that is, the Army Of Republic of Bosnia And Hercegovina, was created in 1992 by Alija Izetbegovic during the Bosnian Conflict . Before, the Arbih was formally created, there existed a number of paramilitary and civil defense groups such as the Green Berets',Patriotic league'TO(territorial Defence)and Civil defenses in villages. The army was formed under poor circumstances. The army had very low supply of armory. It had a very low number of Tanks,transports and it had no Aerial armory. The ARBIH consisted of 275,000 soldiers in the spring of 1992. After the Army was formed under Sefer Halilovic in Command and in Command of the First Corps. The army was divided into Corps, each Corp was stationed in a territory. 1st Korps: Sarajevo(HQ),Gorazde 2nd Korps:Tuzla(HQ),Doboj,Bijeljina,Zvornik and Tesanj 3rd Korps:Zenica(HQ),Gornji Vokuf,Vitez and Lasva Valley 4th Korps:Mainly Mostar(HQ) but also consisting of Livno,Tomislavgrad and Trebinje 5th Korps:Bihac(HQ),Buzim,And Bosanska Krajina 7th Korps:Jajce and Travnik(HQ).
1992 In 1992 70% of Bosnia was under JNA(Yugoslav National Army) and then later VRS(Army of Republic of Serbia) control. Sarajevo was put under siege. ARBiH had defended Sarajevo with light equipment. The army was sorrounded, transfer of supplies was hard and at times impossible. |
