What is AROS?

AROS (Amiga Research Operating System) is an open source implementation of the AmigaOS 3.1 APIs. Designed to be portable and flexible, ports are currently available for x86-based PCs in native and hosted flavours, with other architectures in development.

Current Status

The project, started in 1997, has reached about 75% completion after years of effort by a small team.

Obtaining AROS

AROS is available in a number of ways depending on what you wish to do with it.

For most users the common method is to obtain a distribution for your system - go to The AROS downloads page (http://aros.sourceforge.net/download.php)

Those users who wish to help test/bug hunt/develop AROS may want to obtain the source code instead. The easiest way is to download it from the page mentioned above - but if you want to get the most current version then the only option is to obtain it from CVS.

If you want to contribute to AROS then CVS access is pretty much required.
