AROS (Amiga Research Operating System) is an open source implementation of the AmigaOS 3.1APIs. Designed to be portable and flexible, ports are currently available for x86-based PCs in native and hosted flavours, with other architectures in development.
Current Status
The project, started in 1997, has reached about 75% completion after years of effort by a small team.
Obtaining AROS
AROS is available in a number of ways depending on what you wish to do with it.
For most users the common method is to obtain a distribution for your system - go to The AROS downloads page (http://aros.sourceforge.net/download.php)
Those users who wish to help test/bug hunt/develop AROS may want to obtain the source code instead. The easiest way is to download it from the page mentioned above - but if you want to get the most current version then the only option is to obtain it from CVS.
If you want to contribute to AROS then CVS access is pretty much required.

ARO's research mission represents the most long-range Army view for changes in its technology.
ARO priorities fully integrate Army-wide, long-range planning for research, development, and acquisition.
ARO executes its mission through conduct of an aggressive basic science research program on behalf of the Army so that cutting-edge scientific discoveries and the general store of scientific knowledge will be optimally used to develop and improve weapons systems that establish land force dominance.
Aro M461 was a performant land vehicle, and it won a series of international competitions: 1970 Forests Rally (Belgium), 1973 Sons of Beaches (Oregon).
Aro Scorpion is a prototype made in Italy(in '80es) by ACM brand (pieces from Romania, but assembling in Italy).
Before 1989Aro factory made a prototype of a 4x4 land vehicle: it was a station wagon or a pickup truck.
