The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is an international voluntary organization for people involved in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, or refrigeration (HVAC&R). The society helps to provide its members access to HVAC&R technology and opportunities to participate in the development of such technology.
The ASHRAE Handbook is a four-volume resource for HVAC&R technology. One of the four volumes is updated each year.
The ASHRAE Journal is a monthly magazine published by the ASHRAE. It includes articles on the practical application of HVAC&R technology, information on upcoming meetings and shows, classified advertising, and editorials. Members of the ASHRAE receive the magazine free of charge.
ASHRAE was formed in 1959 by the merging of two societies: the American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers and the American Society of Refrigerating Engineers.
ASHRAE's Position Document on Environmental Tobacco Smoke is now public and can be distributed.
This is a large step for ASHRAE; however, the document would have gone further to protect all workers and patrons from secondhand smoke exposure if it had not contained a statement that isolated and separately ventilated smoking rooms can control secondhand smoke exposure in nonsmoking areas.
The ASHRAE position on secondhand smoke was cited in the 2006 U.S. Surgeon General's Report.
The ASHRAE Student Activities Committee is pleased to announce the unveiling of the 2006 ASHRAE Student Design Project Competition, of Dallas Power and Light located in Dallas, Texas.
The ASHRAE Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and assist heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACandR) education through its granting of scholarships and fellowships.
The ultimate goal of ASHRAE is to support the science of thermal comfort and climate control engineering and to ensure the success of this technology well into the future.
