Their first single, "Around The World (La La La La La)" (a cover of Ruki Vverkh's "Pesenka") was number one in Germany for six weeks in 2000. In fact, this issue went down in history as the single most played song on German Radio. It was later on a Top 40 hit in the United States and United Kingdom. The song was in television commercial for General Electric in the United States. Their debut album Planet Pop was released on February 6, 2001 by Sony BMG Music Entertainment, for which they were awarded an ECHO for 'Best Dance Act'. They were honoured to provide the band for the disbanding parade of the Royal Observer Corps at Colchester Garrison in 1991, as well as appearing twice at the Royal Tournament in London in different years.
In 1995, 2187 Squadron won the East Essex Wing Band Competition, and went on to represent the Wing at the Central and East Region competition at RAF Henlow.
The rest of the band will take their directions from the Drum Major, and orders are often demonstrated by use of his Mace - as it is very difficult to give verbal commands when the band is playing, bandsmen have to carefully watch for the Drum Majors signal with the mace.
