Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) Classification System (381 words)
ATC classifications are available online, and are updated and published once a year by the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Drug Statistics Methodology (http://www.whocc.no/atcddd/).
The ATC system and its associated Defined Daily Dose as a measuring unit are recommended by the WHO for drug utilization studies.
In the ATC classification system, drugs are divided into different groups according to the organ or system on which they act and their chemical, pharmacological and therapeutic properties.

The third level of the code is based on the therapeutic/pharmacological subgroup and consists of one letter.
The fourth level of the code is based on the chemical/therapeutic/pharmacological subgroup and consists of one letter.
