The AZS is one of the most vital sports associations in Poland and during the period between the two World Wars was forerunner in development of many sports branches in Poland and it greatly contributed to establishment of other Polish sports associations during this period.
In those times AZS Sport clubs were established in every academic centre: 1918 in Warsaw, 1919 in Poznan, 1921 in Wilno and Gdansk, 1922 in Lwow and Lublin.
One of AZS peculiarities during the post-war period is its modern approach to practicing individual sport branches which has been subsequently transferred to other sports associations and clubs.
