Sheikh Abdul-Halim (Шейх Абдул-Халим) (born 1967) was designated by Aslan Maskhadov to be his successor as president of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Aslan Aliyevich Maskhadov (Russian: Аслан Алиевич Масхадов) (September 21, 1951 – March 8, 2005) was the leader of the separatist movement in the Russian republic of Chechnya. ... Ichkeria is a Turkic name for the central part of Chechnya. ...

He has a surname, which is variously written Sadulaev or Sadulayev or Saidulaev or Saidulayev or Saidullaev or Saidullayev or Saydullayev; the first two of these seem to be favored by Chechen insurgent sources, while the others are favored by Russian sources and Western media. His first name is also written Abdul-Khalim, and is sometimes written with or without a hyphen. In Russian his name with surname is written Абдул-Халим Сайдуллаев or Абдул-Халим Сайдулаев or Абдул-Халим Садулаев, with or without the hyphen. There is considerable variation in writing his name in both English and Russian sources. His full name given by the official insurgent website kavkazcenter.com appears to be Abdul-Halim Abu-Salamovich Sadulayev (Абдул-Халим Абу-Саламович Садулаев).

Russian troops kill leader of Chechen separatists - Europe - International Herald Tribune (701 words)
The leader, Abdul Khalim Saidullayev, died in a raid in a Chechen village in which two Russian officers were also killed, the director of the Federal Security Service, Nikolai P. Patrushev, said at an international security conference, Russian news agencies reported.
Saidullayev, who was believed to be in his 30's, was a little-known fighter, religious figure and Islamic judge when he was appointed in March 2005 to replace Aslan Maskhadov, the rebel leader and elected president of Chechnya during its brief period of independence in the late 1990's.
Saidullayev led a movement that continues to wage a partisan war against Russian forces in Chechnya and other largely Muslim republics in the Northern Caucasus, but he remained a shadowy figure who was far less prominent than Russia's most wanted man, Shamil Basayev.

Saidullayev, 39, took over when President Aslan Maskhadov was killed by Russian forces in March 2005.
It was, however, under Saidullayev that the Chechen resistance was finally transformed from a fight for independence to Islamic jihad.
By contrast, Saidullayev's presidency was marked by a deep erosion of the "freedom fight" spirit.
