Swami Abhedananda was born on 2nd October 1866 as Kaliprasad Chandra. He was a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. He was a forceful orator, prolific writer, yogi and intellectual with devotional fervor. Swami Vivekananda asked him to propagate the message of Vedanta in west, which he did with great success. In 1921, he returned to India and formed the 'Ramakrishna Vedanta Society' in Kolkota. He died on 8th September 1939. Giriji proclaimed the wisdom of Swami Abhedananda as 'aloukiki prajna' (heavenly wisdom).
As the last survived disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Abhedananda presided over the Parliament of Religions convened on the occasion of the Birth Centenary of Sri Ramakrishna held at the Town Hall Calcutta, in the year 1937.
