At MSU, the Academic Assembly has jurisdiction over academic affairs, and controls over thirty seats in the University Academic Governance System, making it theoretically more powerful than most student governments in the United States. It has in practice, though, been difficult to always fill all these seats, and in 2004, the Academic Assembly opened up these seats to any interested undergraduates.
