The Academy for Gifted Children is an elementary and high school in Oak Ridges (part of Richmond Hill), Ontario, Canada (12 Bond Crescent). Entrance is by a competitive examination. The school has been designed to support intellectually gifted children, and it allows children from grades 1 to GY (GY stands for Graduating Year and is basically grade 12) to enter. The Academy for Gifted Children has made a modification to the usual system that Canadian public schools usually use. Rather than simply allowing the students to proceed through grades 1 to 12, the Academy has merged grades 7 and 8 into one year, as well as added an extra year after grade 12. This is to allow students to graduate with significantly more credits than those graduating from public school; however, the students graduating from P.A.C.E. still graduate at the same age.


The Academy for Gifted Children, also known as P.A.C.E. Highly gifted children may be at a higher level of development in the understanding of reciprocity in relationships, and are then out of sync with age peers in expectations about friendships; however, they may not yet have developed to the level of mental age peers, especially in the early years.
Highly gifted children who are most successful in dealing with peers are those who are able to go along with group goals, be flexible and able to assume multiple social roles (listener, active questioner about another's interest, noticing affect state and activity level of peers, finding commonalities with which to connect to the others).
The highly gifted child having peer difficulties because he or she is advanced over age peers in expectations for reciprocity and mutuality, in moral development and in specific needs for close intimate friends, needs contact with older gifted peers at similar levels of social development no matter what his or her age.

For gifted and talented pupils, this means better stretch and challenge in every classroom and in every school with opportunities to further their particular talents outside school at a local and national level.
In August 2007, the DCSF contract with the University of Warwick to run the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth ended and was awarded to the CfBT educational trust.
The academy began by focusing on secondary education before turning its attention to the primary sector in 2003.
