AceFu is a NYC-based label with full NYC attitude and (to their credit) an interesting roster of talent.
And yet this is no record company to sneeze at, as it were, since one of the artists on the label is the estimable, and strikingly high-profile Sufjan Stevens (he of the 50-state, 50-CD recording project).
Billing itself as "a new kind of record company," Machine is a Chicago-based outfit with a DIY mentality and a hands-on approach to promoting their artists.
Pinback first began in 1998 when Smith and Crow both had some downtime from their other projects Smiths 3 Mile Pilot and Crows Thingy and Heavy Vegetable.
This side project eventually led to a self-titled debut released on AceFuRecords in 1999.
They released another full length on AceFu called Blue Screen Life, an EP on Tree Records called Some Voices, and an EP on Absolutely Kosher called Offcell.
